Five Tips to Increase Business eCommerce Sales

by | Aug 23, 2014 | Digital Marketing, eCommerce

The demand for people to be able to shop online has increased exponentially over the last few years. The web has transformed how both consumers and business shoppers look, browse and buy products online. One thing that is important to remember is that you can increase your eCommerce sales by making some minor, incremental changes. Small improvements can make a big difference. Below are 5 tips to help you increase your business eCommerce sales, and they are just a sampling of the types of ideas that should be tested regularly so as to increase your site’s conversion rate.

1) Cross-selling

Have you ever been standing in line at the grocery store to check out and you look up and decide to buy the magazine sitting on the rack in front of you? This is an industry tactic that also works well online and that most successful companies tend to execute flawlessly.

When a customer on your website goes to check out, promote an extended warranty or additional items they may be interested in before they get to the final checkout stage. Other ideas may be previously viewed items and, if your company offers personalization or gift-wrapping, you could offer that as well. Amazon does an outstanding job promoting these add-ons; they are the “King” of cross-selling.

2) Promote Customer Satisfaction

Your business’s product reputation is important to people that are trying to decided between two items. If one of your customers is trying to decide between items A and B and item B has customer reviews that are positive, your customer will very likely end up putting item B in their cart. Encourage – and even reward – customers to review your best sellers and then promote any feedback you have on these products. This will have an incredible effect on your conversion rate.

3) Add Detail

Getting your customer to actually click the ‘add to basket’ button may be a challenge. Achieving this goal is easy if you display useful details that highlight the most important benefits or features of your product such as price, delivery, special offers and other information. Ask yourself, “What does a person want or need to know to buy this product?” And then make sure you provide that information.

4) Remove Required Registration

No customer enjoys creating an account before they can make an actual purchase. Don’t risk losing them as a customer by forcing registration for an account. Provide the option to create an account later after they make a purchase and then they can do it on their own if they want to. This and any other form of ‘friction’ should be closely examined for possible elimination, as the removal of each unnecessary item will most certainly increase conversions.

5) Continuous Usability Testing

Regular testing of usability is important for your business eCommerce website. This is important for the key aspects of the website experience such as the checkout process, forms, etc. There are different types of testing that can be done and this is important to make sure your customer is getting the best user experience possible.

Building a strong reputation, providing useful details and listening to your customers are all important steps to take to create a powerful business e-commerce website and increase your sales. These 5 simple tips are easy to implement and they will all help you with your sales and conversions.
